University of California, San Francisco invites applicants for Assistant/Associate Director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory in the Department of Laboratory Medicine. This full-time faculty role supports growth of a high-volume CLIA/CAP‑accredited lab and leads key analytic operations.

The successful candidate will sign out cases, advise clinicians on test selection and interpretation, develop new assays, and collaborate with UCSF Health Genetics and Genomics laboratories to advance

Qualifications

• PhD/MD/DO in Clinical Laboratory Science, Genetics, Molecular Biology, or related field.
• ABMGG board certification or eligibility in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics or Molecular Genetic Pathology.
• Hands-on molecular analyses experience: NGS, PCR; preferred FISH, SNP microarray, optical genome mapping.
• Experience in hematologic molecular diagnostics; leadership in a CLIA/CAP‑accredited lab preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sign out cases and advise physicians on test selection and result interpretation.
• Our test menu includes targeted NGS panels, RT‑PCR fusion transcript detection, single‑gene assays and more.
• Develop, validate, and implement new molecular assays across the lab menu.
• Collaborate with directors across UCSF Health Genetics and Genomics Laboratories.
