Job summary

Zing Recruiting, in partnership with a prominent client in Spartanburg, SC is seeking a skilled Mold Tool Maker to join their team. The Mold Tool Maker will maintain, repair, and modify inventory of over 100 active plastic molds.

In this role, you will not build new molds from scratch. Instead, you will focus on mold repair, preventative maintenance, engineering change modifications, and spotting in new molds or details.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; vocational training a plus.
• 3–5 years in plastic injection mold repair or toolmaking.
• Welding: TIG and precision laser welding experience for tool steels.
• Machining: proficient with manual toolroom equipment (mills, lathes, grinders).
• Ability to read 2D drawings, blueprints, and tool schematics.
• Accurate use of precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators).
• Strong troubleshooting to identify wear, flashing, and parting line issues.

Responsibilities

• Mold Repair: diagnose and repair damaged or worn molds to minimize downtime.
• Engineering Changes: modify mold components to reflect design updates.
• Spotting & Fitting: align and fit new molds, inserts, and details for proper shutoffs.
• Manual Machining: set up and operate mills, lathes, grinders.
• Precision Welding: TIG and laser welding for tool detail repairs.
• Hand Bench Work: polish, fit, deburr, and assemble complex mold parts.
• Preventative Maintenance: perform teardowns, cleaning, inspections, and lubrication.
