Qualifications

  • High school or vocational training with math, blueprint reading, metalworking.
  • Machining experience and the ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting capability.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills for team collaboration.
  • Proficiency using basic computer tools to retrieve data for molds.

Responsibilities

  • Plan the sequence of operations from blueprints to manufacture tools or dies.
  • Use hand tools to fit and assemble gauges and other equipment.
  • Complete a die to a realistic date and produce samples per specs.
  • Make prototype molds from aluminum, bronze, and other materials.
  • Communicate daily with programmers to complete projects.
  • Provide courteous, confidential guest relations and support as needed.

Job description

General Job Summary:

Produce tools, dies, and special guiding and holding devices that enable machines to manufacture a variety of products. Communicates with programmers.

Essential Job Functions:
  • 1. Works from blueprints or instructions to plan the sequence of operations necessary to manufacture the tool or die.
  • 2. Uses hand tools for fitting and assembling gauges, and other mechanical and metal-forming equipment.
  • 3. Completes a die to a realistic promise date and produces samples to the customer's specifications.
  • 4. Makes proto@type molds from various material (aluminum, bronze, etc…)
  • 5. Communicates with programmers on a daily basis for completion of projects.
  • 6. Promotes guest relations; anticipates and responds to needs of others; provides assistance in a courteous, quick manner; treats others with care and respect, maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
  • 1. Performs all other duties as assigned or required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • 1. Familiar with machining properties, such as harness and heat tolerance, of a wide variety of common metals and alloys.
  • 2. Mechanically inclined.
  • 3. Ability to work and solve problems independently.
  • 4. Ability to do work that requires concentration and physical effort.
  • 5. Ability to organize work and priorities to meet deadlines.
  • 6. Broad knowledge of machining operations, mathematics, and blueprint reading.
  • 7. Communication skills necessary to provide information in a comprehensible fashion (oral and written); read and comprehend instructions.
  • 8. Good interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain a productive working relationship with staff members.
  • 9. Computer knowledge to retrieve data for the mold making process.
Working Conditions:
  • 1. Shop environment with exposure to noises from shop machines.
  • 2. Requires a high degree of patience and attention to detail.
  • 3. Good eyesight (with or without glasses).
  • 4. Extended hours are commonly required beyond the regular eight-hour workday.
  • 5. Must wear protective equipment such as safety glasses to shield against bits of flying metal when on the shop floor, may wear earplugs to protect against noise, and gloves and masks to reduce exposure to hazardous lubricants and cleaners.
  • 6. Work requires standing approximately fifty percent. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear, may do moderately heavy lifting.
Minimum Level of Preparation and Training:

High school or vocational school education, including courses in mathematics, blueprint reading, metalworking, and drafting is a prerequisite.
