Job summary

A manufacturing company in Franklin, Tennessee is seeking a Toolmaker to disassemble mold tooling, troubleshoot, and repair machines. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED and 3-4 years of relevant experience, familiar with CNC and EDM technologies. Responsibilities include performing precise assembly operations and maintaining records of work and repairs. Candidates must be able to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • 3-4 years as Toolmaker Level I or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret diagrams and blueprints.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Disassemble mold tooling for cleaning and repair
  • Works from blueprints, sketches, general instructions to disassemble, inspect, repair, and assemble various molds, tools, and mechanical equipment
  • Performs final fitting operations on purchased / repaired components for proper assembly
  • Performs the highly critical assembly operations, refitting, re-venting or making adjustments as necessary for the mold to achieve designed objectives
  • Answers troubled calls from Manufacturing departments as required
  • Maintains equipment maintenance and repair history records, details of work performed, parts replaced, and the labor hours, as required
  • EDM, CNC experience is a plus.
  • Constructs and repairs machine shop tools, gauges, fixtures, jigs or dies for use within the establishment
  • Solves problems relating to unusual material, work-holding arrangements, machine settings, fabrication methods, and production process
  • May provide guidance to lower level toolmakers
  • Performs mold repair work on cavities and cores due to damage or wear
  • Disassembles and assembles molds, analyzes and solves basic mold problems including flashing conditions, galling, venting, cooling problems, Assembles, repairs, inspects, cleans and polishes molds using skill and care while handling and polishing critical surfaces
  • Troubleshoot and repair all brands of Hot runner systems
  • Completes Engineering changes and revisions to molds
  • Manufactures new or repairs existing mold components as required
  • Interprets drawings and evaluates machining methods on assignments requiring instructions from Toolroom Supervisor only on intricate machining setups
  • Perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions
  • May recommend revisions in design and/or substitutions in material based on "machine-ability" or fabrication problems encountered
  • Stones and polishes mold components
  • Plan, lay out and perform all bench, machine and finishing operations required to alter and condition intricately designed and constructed plastic injection molds and related fixtures
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 – 4 years as Toolmaker Level I or equivalent experience
  • Must be familiar with electrical and hydraulic circuits using diagrams, blueprints, and electrical circuit test meters and methods
  • Ability to read and write English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and blueprints
  • Ability to perform basic math and interpret and executive work instructions
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Ability to read safety, quality, and manufacturing instructions
  • Possess the ability to work rapidly and under time pressure.
  • Math skills to include simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Ability to effectively coordinate and monitor a team
  • Ability to work independently in a fast pace, constant changing environment
  • Strong sense of urgency
