Job summary

Coldspring in Minnesota is seeking a Mold Line Operator to participate in a 10-job rotation on a paced production line that creates quality sand castings for memorial plates.

You will assemble pattern, flask, gate, and core print; monitor the spraying booth for releasing agent; adjust sand machine settings; and ensure work orders are accurately recorded in the JDE system. This full-time hourly position requires lifting up to 75 lbs, strong math skills, and dedication to safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Must be physically capable of repetitive bending, lifting up to 75 lbs, and standing for full shifts.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem solving and time management to improve efficiencies.
  • Basic math skills and ability to apply measurements.
  • Able to read work orders and dimensional drawings and tape measures.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble the pattern, flask, gate, and core print.
  • Monitor the spraying booth that applies the releasing agent.
  • Ensure the pattern meets work order specifications.
  • Record work performed in the JDE system as needed.
  • Make sand machine adjustments for mold size and quality.
  • Operate the sand machine to lay down flat, even sand layers.
  • Shape sprue on the cope side of the mold and ensure even distribution.

Hours: Monday – Thursday: 5:00am – 2:00pm & Friday: 5:00am – 11:00am; overtime as needed

JOB SUMMARY:

The Mold Line Operator is responsible for participating in a 10-job rotation on a paced production line that incorporates all of the necessary functions required to create quality sand castings for memorial plates.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
  • Assembling the pattern, flask, gate, and core print
  • Monitoring the spraying booth that applies the releasing agent on the pattern
  • Ensuring the pattern meets work order specifications
  • Scanning work orders to record work performed in the JDE system as needed
  • Making adjustments on the sand machine to accommodate mold size
  • Using the strike-off board to move sand back and forth, filling all gaps and striking any excess sand off of the mold
  • Operating the sand machine to fan thin layers of sand
  • Forming and shaping sprue on the cope side of the mold
  • Leveling sand to ensure it is evenly distributed across the entire mold
  • Breaking excess sand on the waste conveyor
Requirements
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position such as repetitive bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects. Applicants mist be able to lifts up to 75 lbs. and stand for the entire shift.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another, to avoid interruptions in production.
  • Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis in time management, improving efficiencies and exercising independent judgment to determine work priority and urgency.
  • General math skills.
  • Must be able to read work orders or production tickets, which may include dimensional drawings.
  • Ability to read a tape measure, imperial and metric.
  • Work as a self-motivated team member who adheres to all safety protocols and is willing to cross-train as needed.
  • Candidates must be willing to be trained in all areas of the mold line.
