Qualifications

• Valid New York State teaching certificate in Physical Education (K-12) or eligibility for a Professional Coaching Certificate or Temporary Coaching License.
• First Aid, CPR, and AED certificates for coaches at time of appointment.
• Fingerprinting clearance via NYS Education Department; applicant pays $102.00 fingerprinting fee.
• Complete required coursework prior to appointment: Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse, SAVE, DASA, Concussion.
• Willingness to enroll in Coaching Course Options within the first two years of coaching.

Responsibilities

• Years of overall coaching experience, years of coaching in a specific sport, and years at Youth/Modified/JV/Varsity levels will be considered.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and positively with students and parents.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a strong grade 7-12 athletic program.
• Demonstrated ability to oversee in-season and off-season conditioning and strength programs.
• Demonstrated ability to expand and develop an in-community feeder program.
• Demonstrated ability to develop a unified and committed coaching staff.
• Emphasis on academics, sportsmanship, and drug-free participation.
• Encourage multi-sport participation by team members.

Requirements for New and Returning Coaches:

• A valid New York State teaching certificate in Physical Education (K-12) or another classroom subject area, a Professional Coaching Certificate, or eligibility for a Temporary Coaching License, valid and acceptable First Aid, CPR, and AED certificates for coaches at the time of appointment.
• The following coursework is required and must be completed prior to being appointed as a coach:
  • Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse
  • SAVE
  • DASA
  • Concussion
• Willingness to enroll in and complete the Coaching Course Options within the first two years of coaching.
• Please view attachment which containscurrent information regarding acceptable providers for the requirements listed above.
• All new employees must be fingerprinted and cleared for employment through the NYS Education Department before employment begins. The new employee is responsible for the fingerprinting fee of $102.00.

Coaching Selection Criteria:

• Years of overall coaching experience;
• Years of coaching experience in a specific sport;
• Years of coaching experience at various levels (Youth Organizations, Modified, Junior Varsity and/or Varsity)
• Performance in previous coachingpositions;
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and positively with students and parents;
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage a strong grade 7-12 athletic program;
• Demonstrated ability to oversee an in-season and off-season conditioning and strength program;
• Demonstrated ability to expand and develop an in-community feeder program;
• Demonstrated ability to develop a unified and committed coaching staff;
• Demonstrated ability to emphasize academics sportsmanship, and chemical-free sports participation;
• Demonstrated ability to encourage multiple sport participation by team members
