Description

We are seeking Modeling & Simulation Engineers to support advanced research and analysis focused on the safe integration of Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) into the U.S. National Airspace System.

This role will involve developing, maintaining, verifying, validating, and executing large-scale modeling and simulation tools used to evaluate aircraft encounters, collision avoidance systems, sensors, tracking systems, pilot response, and aircraft maneuvering.

The team performs fast-time, Monte Carlo simulations at large scale, using simulation and statistical analysis to identify failure conditions, evaluate system performance, and provide findings to government sponsors and external collaborators.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with strong MATLAB/Simulink and modeling & simulation experience who enjoys solving complex technical problems and communicating results to technical and government audiences. Prior aviation or UAS experience is helpful but not required.

What You'll Do
  • Develop, maintain, upgrade, verify, validate, and exercise modeling and simulation tools
  • Design, develop, assess, and refine models of system components, including:
    • Sensors such as radar and electro-optical systems
    • Tracking systems
    • Decision-support and collision-avoidance algorithms
    • Pilot response
    • Vehicle dynamics
  • Conduct large-scale Monte Carlo and statistical simulations using cluster computing environments
  • Analyze simulation results and investigate failure conditions and system behavior
  • Debug and test software in Windows and Linux environments
  • Integrate new and legacy components into simulation architectures
  • Identify and implement improvements to software and simulation infrastructure
  • Plan, execute, document, and present analysis results
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams, external partners, and government sponsors
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports and presentations
  • Gradually take on increased responsibility for direct sponsor interaction and technical presentations
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related technical field
  • Approximately 2+ years of relevant modeling, simulation, or engineering experience
  • Strong proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink
  • Experience specifying, developing, debugging, testing, and executing models and simulations
  • Experience with statistical methods and simulation

  • Experience working in both Windows and Linux development environments
  • Familiarity with Git or another revision control system
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to present technical findings to sponsors, collaborators, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and contribute effectively within a small engineering team

Strong master's-level research, thesis work, internships, or other directly relevant experience may be considered in lieu of extensive professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Monte Carlo simulation and/or parallel or cluster computing experience
  • Experience with C/C++ programming
  • Experience generating, debugging, compiling, or executing C/C++ or Java code from MATLAB/Simulink
