Job Description
Position Overview

Metronome is seeking a Modeling & Simulation Engineer to support the National Air and Space Intelligence Center in Dayton, Ohio.

In this role, you will develop, modify, test, and integrate aerospace models representing aircraft, missile, space, and related systems. You will work in a highly technical, code-driven environment where aerospace engineering and software development come together to solve complex mission challenges.

The ideal candidate has meaningful hands‑on experience building models in MATLAB and Simulink, understands aerospace system dynamics, and can contribute to software development, testing, automation, and model integration. We are looking for engineers who understand not only how to build a model, but also why it is being developed and how it supports the customer's mission.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and modify system, subsystem, component, and flight-dynamics models for aerospace applications.

  • Build mathematical and simulation models representing aircraft, missile, space, or satellite systems.

  • Model aerospace behaviors and components such as six-degree-of-freedom flight dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, sensors, and guidance, navigation, and control.

  • Develop algorithms and simulation software to evaluate system characteristics, performance, and capabilities.

  • Perform trade-space analysis, experimental design, simulation execution, data collection, and results analysis.

  • Conduct verification and validation of models, algorithms, and simulation outputs.

  • Develop automated testing, analysis, and engineering tools.

  • Debug software and troubleshoot model, hardware, and software integration challenges.

  • Integrate models into complex simulation architectures, including engagement-level, theater-level, and hardware-in-the-loop environments.

  • Document model assumptions, software changes, test architecture, test plans, procedures, results, and technical conclusions.

  • Collaborate with engineers, analysts, data providers, program stakeholders, and government customers.

  • Communicate complex technical findings through clear written, oral, and digital products.

  • Connect modeling and engineering decisions to mission objectives, operational environments, and customer needs.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related technical discipline.

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in modeling and simulation, aerospace engineering, simulation software development, or a related technical field.

  • Hands‑on MATLAB and Simulink experience, including developing or modifying models rather than solely running existing simulations.

  • Experience translating physical behaviors or engineering concepts into system, subsystem, component, or flight‑dynamics models.

  • Demonstrated understanding of aerospace system functions and dynamics.

  • Experience writing, debugging, testing, or integrating software in a technical engineering environment.

  • Ability to solve complex modeling, software, or system‑integration problems.

  • Strong analytical, technical communication, and documentation skills.

  • Ability to contribute both independently and within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with technical personnel, data providers, program stakeholders, and customers.

  • Ability to manage a primary technical effort while contributing to additional projects as needed.

  • Current Secret security clearance.

  • Ability to work on‑site in Dayton, Ohio, or willingness to relocate.

  • U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Active Top Secret clearance with eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information.

  • Experience modeling missile, aircraft, space, satellite, or other aerospace systems.

  • Experience with six-degree-of-freedom modeling, flight dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, sensors, or guidance, navigation, and control.

  • Python experience supporting verification and validation, test automation, data analysis, or engineering‑tool development.

  • C or C++ software‑development experience.

  • Experience integrating compiled models, libraries, plugins, or DLLs into larger simulation environments.

  • Experience with AFSIM, including scenario development, AppSimScript, plugin development, or simulation integration.

  • Familiarity with NGTS, JSE, TMAP, or ITASE.

  • Experience with simulation verification and validation, test‑framework development, or model‑integration pipelines.

  • Experience with engagement‑level, theater‑level, or hardware‑in‑the‑loop simulation.

  • Familiarity with digital engineering or model‑based engineering practices.

  • Experience supporting NASIC, AFRL, the Department of Defense, the Intelligence Community, or another aerospace and defense organization.

  • Understanding of intelligence analysis and its application to aerospace system development, evaluation, or acquisition.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related technical discipline.

  • A master's degree in a related technical discipline is preferred.
