Job summary

Applied Research Solutions is seeking a Model Based Systems Engineer to design, analyze, and manage complex systems throughout their lifecycle in a DoD context. You will generate SysML models, DoDAF views, and documentation, using Cameo Enterprise Architecture or similar tools to support architecture development and robust system design.

Applicants must be a US citizen with a Top Secret clearance. A Bachelor's or advanced Electrical Engineering degree with extensive DoD experience is required,

Qualifications

Responsibilities Include:

The individual shall be able to:

  • Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles to design, analyze, and manage complex systems throughout their lifecycle. Integrate various system models and ensure alignment with engineering and operational requirements.

  • Provide hands‑on expertise utilizing SysML for system modeling and documentation, including the creation of use case diagrams, activity diagrams, sequence diagrams, and block definition diagrams, among others.

  • Generate Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) architecture views and products, including Operational Views (OVs), Systems Views (SVs), and Technical Views (TVs). Use DoDAF‑compliant models to support the design, analysis, and communication of defense architectures.

  • Demonstrated expertise with MBSE tools such as Cameo Enterprise Architecture, or similar platforms to create SysML and DoDAF models, ensuring robust system design and analysis.

  • Develop, validate, and optimize models and simulations for complex systems and processes with emphasis on weapons systems modeling and scenario generation.

  • Conduct reviews on program portfolio to evaluate and/or recommend alternative plans, improve systems engineering programs/processes, manage/sustain program technical baseline, and design/perform system level tests to assure that subsystems and system performance is achieved in accordance with approved specifications.

  • Perform program reviews to evaluate alternative proposed plans, systems engineering programs, design, and test results to assure that subsystem and system performance is achieved in accordance with program specifications.

  • Prepare technical documents which define, specify, and recommend system/subsystem characteristics. Prepare management reports and conduct technical presentations for planning, implementation, and corrective action using application of engineering economy principles.

  • Perform validation of systems, including development of criteria and procedures. Analyze and/or evaluate results of major engineering systems.

  • Provide system/program engineering, technical support and technical training to support programs/initiatives, including but not limited to: acquisition, development, integration, sustainment, continued evolution, deployment/fielding and installation, and operations oversight.

  • Provide engineering support services and inputs to program and project risk management activities in compliance with Air Force SEAM processes.

  • Capable of performing: problem/gap definition, trade space analysis, science and technology roadmap analysis, “Set based design” for concept development, Multi‑Objective Decision Analysis (MODA) and cost versus capability trade off analysis.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/ Technical Experience Requirements:
  • Must be a US citizen.

  • Top Secret Security Clearance.

  • Advanced Electrical Engineering degree (MA/MS) and 12 years of experience in aircraft space, and/or radar systems, of which 5 years must be in the DoD, or a BA/BS degree and 15 years of experience in Electrical or Computer Engineering, of which 5 years must be in the DoD or 20 years of directly related experience with proper certifications as described in the Functionally Aligned Job Descriptions, of which 8 years must be in the DoD with aircraft systems.

The annual salary range: $150k - $160k. Salary is dependent upon the role and associated responsibilities, candidate's experience, and qualifications to include education/training, and key skills.
