Job summary

Nissan invites aspiring machine learning researchers to join a 12‑week internship in Santa Clara, CA. The role centers on data-driven simulation and ML tools to study mobility fleets, battery health, charging behavior, and fleet performance.

You'll work with a cross-disciplinary team, train and validate models, analyze diverse datasets, and contribute to dashboards, reports, and potential patents while gaining hands-on experience in transportation analytics and sustainable mobility.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Robotics, Transportation Systems, or a related field.
• Strong Python programming skills and data analysis workflows.
• Hands-on experience with ML and data science tools (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, PySpark).
• Experience with ML, forecasting, optimization, simulation, or time-series analysis.
• Strong interest in mobility services, electric vehicles, battery technologies, fleet operations, or sustainable transportation.
• Excellent communication and teamwork; attention to detail and adaptability.
• GPA 3.0 or above; transcripts may be requested.
• Ability to work onsite in Santa Clara, CA.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to development, training, validation, and optimization of ML and simulation models for mobility service applications.
• Analyze vehicle, charging, fleet, and battery datasets to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Support development of simulation tools to evaluate fleet utilization, charging strategies, maintenance planning, and service availability.
• Collaborate with researchers, data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders on feature engineering, data processing, model evaluation, and KPI development.
• Communicate findings through reports, dashboards, visualizations, presentations, and demonstrations to technical and business audiences.
• Explore opportunities to contribute to patents, academic publications, open-source projects, and other IP initiatives.
