Job summary

Nissan USA is seeking a Machine Learning Research Intern in Santa Clara, CA, for a 12-week program. The role supports Mobility Services by building data-driven ML tools, simulating fleet operations, and modeling battery health and charging behavior.

You will collaborate across teams to develop models and evaluate performance, with opportunities to contribute to publications and IP. The internship targets Master’s or PhD students in technical fields, requires strong Python skills and experience

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD degree program in a related technical field.
• Strong Python programming skills and data analysis workflows.
• Experience with ML and data science tools (pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, PySpark).
• Experience with ML, forecasting, optimization, simulation, or time-series analysis.
• Interest in mobility services, EVs, battery tech, fleet ops, or sustainable transportation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• GPA 3.0 or above with transcript available.
• Ability to work onsite in Santa Clara, CA.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to development, training, validation, and optimization of ML and simulation models for mobility applications.
• Analyze vehicle, charging, fleet, and battery data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Support development of simulation tools to evaluate fleet utilization, charging strategies, and maintenance planning.
• Collaborate with researchers, data scientists, engineers, and stakeholders on feature engineering and model evaluation.
• Communicate findings through reports, dashboards, and presentations to technical and business audiences.
• Explore opportunities to contribute to patents, publications, or open-source projects.
