Job summary

State of Connecticut – Department of Aging and Disability Services is seeking an Education Consultant for the Blind (Mobility Instruction) to plan and administer a program of independent travel instruction for blind children and adults. The role involves supervising and instructing in cane usage, safety, posture, and orientation to community environments.

Responsibilities include statewide travel, collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, and engagement with families.

Qualifications

• Six (6) years of experience teaching blind or visually handicapped adults.
• One (1) year of that experience must be in mobility instruction.
• Possession of a certificate in Orientation and Mobility from a recognized national, state, or professional organization.

Responsibilities

• Utilize knowledge of the Expanded Core Curriculum to support students who are blind or visually impaired.
• Travel statewide to deliver high‑quality independent travel instruction services.
• Collaborate with a team to provide world‑class educational and vocational services.
• Make a real difference in the lives of children and their families.
