Job summary

Qualifications

• Certification by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) required.
• Dually certified COMSs preferred, with both COMS certification and ISBE TVI licensure.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate students to determine eligibility for O&M service by identifying strengths and needs.
• Develop IEP goals as integral members of the eligibility team.
• Provide direct instruction and consultative services for identified students.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers on the implementation of strategies and accommodations.
• Create lessons based on identified IEP goals.
• Teach students to use public transportation modes as outlined in IEPs.

Skills

Strong spoken and written communication skills

Knowledge of the Chicago street grid

Ability to plan routes and anticipate possible hazards in terrain

Knowledge of the UEB braille code

Ability to maintain focus throughout lessons

Education

Certification by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP)

Dually certified COMSs preferred
