Job summary

FleetPride is seeking a Mobile Trailer Technician II to expertly perform preventative maintenance, diagnose trailer system failures, and perform adjustments and part replacements on Class 7 and 8 trailers. This role involves working in the shop between service calls and may participate in after-hours on-call rotations.

Candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, 3+ years in trailer repair, welding/carpentry, a valid driver's license, and the ability to lift 50 lbs. CDL is preferred.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience repairing class 7 & 8 trailers.
  • Carpentry fabrication and welding experience is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Class A CDL is preferred, but not required.
  • Must provide hand tools, air tools, and toolbox.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Examine trailers to determine extent of damage or malfunctions.
  • Diagnose, repair, build and rebuild trailer systems.
  • Provide preventative maintenance recommendations to customers.
  • Maintain 80% productivity and minimize comebacks.
  • Perform inspections and scheduled maintenance on trailers and equipment.
  • Repair brakes (air, hydraulic, electric) and accessories.
  • Test components and troubleshoot suspension systems.
  • Perform basic welding on aluminum and steel surfaces.
  • Keep workspace and service truck clean and organized.
  • Practice safe driving.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Mobile Trailer Technician II is expected to have mastered all applications of Preventative Maintenance and to perform basic and advanced adjustments, repairs and component replacements with limited supervision on Class 7 and 8 trailers. Additionally, will perform basic diagnostic operations in order to successfully diagnose trailer system failures and suggest accurate system repairs. This technician will also work in the shop between service calls. They may also be asked to participate in the after-hour on-call rotation for the location, if needed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Examine trailers to determine extent of damage or malfunction(s).
  • Diagnoses, repairs, builds and rebuilds all parts of trailer equipment
  • Provide customers with preventative maintenance solution, whenever appropriate.
  • Maintain 80% productivity
  • Prevent comebacks
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance of trailers and equipment.
  • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services such as lubrications and component replacements.
  • Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes (air, hydraulic, electric and brake accessories).
  • Test components using proper equipment to ensure proper operations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair suspension systems including leaf and coil spring systems, and Hendrickson walking beam type suspension systems.
  • Perform basic aluminum and steel wire welding.
  • File, grind, sand and smooth filled or repaired surfaces, using power tools and hand tools.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and service truck.
  • Practice safe driving.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Vocational and/or Welding certificate/degree is a plus, but not required.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
  • 3 + years of experience with repairing class 7 & 8 trailers
  • Carpentry fabrication and welding
SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record required.
  • Class A CDL is preferred, but not required.
  • Must provide hand tools, air tools, and toolbox.
  • Maintain perfect safety record
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS

WORK ENVIRONMENT - Exposure to Inside/Outside Conditions, Extreme Temperatures (average of 100 Degrees F), Humid Conditions, Chemical Hazards, Vibration, Equipment Noise, Work in enclosed and confined spaces.
