Job summary

FleetPride is seeking a Mobile Technician II to perform preventative maintenance and diagnostic work on heavy-duty trucks and trailers in a shop setting. You will perform inspections, maintenance, and repairs across braking, suspension, electrical, exhaust, and drive systems, with on-call rotations as needed.

Qualifications include 3+ years' experience with class 7/8 vehicles, welding, and Air Brake Certification. A valid driver's license is required and Class A CDL is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunction.
• Provide customers with preventative maintenance solutions.
• Maintain 80% productivity and prevent comebacks.
• Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Perform routine maintenance like oil changes, lubrications and filter replacements.
• Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes (air, hydraulic, electric).
• Test drive vehicles and components with proper equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair suspension systems (leaf/coil, Hendrickson).
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, exhaust, steering, HVAC, PTOs and custom exhaust systems.
• Adjust, remove and replace clutches and drivelines.
• Troubleshoot and repair fuel tanks, fifth wheels, hitches and frames.
• Perform tandem alignment and king pin/bushing repairs.
• Basic aluminum and steel welding.
• Fabricate driveshafts as needed.
• Finish surfaces using file, grind, sand, and hand tools.
• Access vehicle bodies and components by removing upholstery and parts.
• Maintain clean, organized workspace and service truck.
• Practice safe driving.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Mobile Technician II is expected to have mastered all applications of Preventative Maintenance and to perform basic and advanced adjustments, repairs and component replacements with limited supervision. Additionally, the Technician II will perform basic diagnostic operations in order to successfully diagnose vehicle system failures and suggest accurate system repairs. This technician will also work in the shop between service calls. They may also be asked to participate in the after-hour on-call rotation for the location, if needed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunction(s).
• Provide customers with preventative maintenance solution, whenever appropriate.
• Maintain 80% productivity
• Prevent comebacks
• Perform inspections and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications and filter replacements.
• Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes (air, hydraulic, electric and brake accessories).
• Test drive vehicles and test components using proper equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair suspension systems including leaf and coil spring systems, and Hendrickson walking beam type suspension systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, exhaust systems, steering systems, air conditioning, PTO”S and custom exhaust systems.
• Adjust, remove and replace clutches and drivelines.
• Troubleshoot and repair fuel tanks, fifth wheels, trailer hitches, pintle hooks, auxiliary axles and frames.
• Perform tandem alignment, front axle king pin and bushing repairs.
• Perform basic aluminum and steel wire welding.
• Utilize machinery in order to repair or fabricate any driveshaft.
• File, grind, sand and smooth filled or repaired surfaces, using power tools and hand tools.
• Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical window and seat operating equipment and trim to gain access to vehicle bodies and fenders.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace and service truck.
• Practice safe driving.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

• High school diploma or GED
• Diesel Technology certificate/degree is a plus, but not required.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

• 3 + years of experience with repairing class 7 & 8 trucks and trailers
• Welding
• Air Brake Certified

WORKING CONDITIONS
