Job summary

FleetPride is seeking a Mobile Technician II to master preventative maintenance and perform advanced adjustments, repairs and component replacements with limited supervision. The role includes on-vehicle diagnostics, shop work between service calls, and possible after-hour on-call rotation.

Ideal candidates bring 3+ years of heavy-truck experience, welding capability, and Air Brake Certification. High school diploma or GED is required; Diesel tech cert is a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Diesel technology certification/degree is a plus but not required.
  • 3+ years of experience repairing class 7 & 8 trucks and trailers.
  • Welding experience and Air Brake Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunctions.
  • Provide customers with preventative maintenance solutions when appropriate.
  • Maintain 80% productivity and minimize comebacks.
  • Inspect and perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, lubrications and filter replacements.
  • Repair, relign, replace and adjust brakes and related components.
  • Test drive vehicles and components using proper equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair suspension, electrical, exhaust and air conditioning systems.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Mobile Technician II is expected to have mastered all applications of Preventative Maintenance and to perform basic and advanced adjustments, repairs and component replacements with limited supervision. Additionally, the Technician II will perform basic diagnostic operations in order to successfully diagnose vehicle system failures and suggest accurate system repairs. This technician will also work in the shop between service calls. They may also be asked to participate in the after-hour on-call rotation for the location, if needed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunction(s).
  • Provide customers with preventative maintenance solution, whenever appropriate.
  • Maintain 80% productivity
  • Prevent comebacks
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications and filter replacements.
  • Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes (air, hydraulic, electric and brake accessories).
  • Test drive vehicles and test components using proper equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair suspension systems including leaf and coil spring systems, and Hendrickson walking beam type suspension systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, exhaust systems, steering systems, air conditioning, PTO”S and custom exhaust systems.
  • Adjust, remove and replace clutches and drivelines.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fuel tanks, fifth wheels, trailer hitches, pintle hooks, auxiliary axles and frames.
  • Perform tandem alignment, front axle king pin and bushing repairs.
  • Perform basic aluminum and steel wire welding.
  • Utilize machinery in order to repair or fabricate any driveshaft.
  • File, grind, sand and smooth filled or repaired surfaces, using power tools and hand tools.
  • Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical window and seat operating equipment and trim to gain access to vehicle bodies and fenders.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and service truck.
  • Practice safe driving.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Diesel Technology certificate/degree is a plus, but not required.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • 3 + years of experience with repairing class 7 & 8 trucks and trailers
  • Welding
  • Air Brake Certified

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record required.
  • Class A CDL is preferred, but not required.
  • Must provide hand tools, air tools, and toolbox.
  • Maintain perfect safety record
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

WORK ENVIRONMENT - Exposure to Inside/Outside Conditions, Extreme Temperatures (average of 100 Degrees F), Humid Conditions, Chemical Hazards, Vibration, Equipment Noise, Work in enclosed and confined spaces.
