Qualifications

  • 3 years’ experience in a related field or equivalent education.
  • Valid driver’s license and DOT Medical Card required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform certified DOT inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Manage parts inventory and operate service vehicle.
  • Diagnose and repair trailer systems and maintain safety protocols.

JOB SUMMARY

To support the growth of the company, Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Mobile Trailer Technician II to join our team! This is a dedicated on-site position, and we do not provide emergency roadside repairs. If you are looking for a new place to call home, we would love to talk to you! The Mobile Trailer Technician II will be responsible for performing certified DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties such as aluminum and chem-lite work, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework. Work is performed at the customer's site. The Mobile Trailer Technician II can perform more advanced repairs under supervision and assists Sr Mobile Trailer Technicians, continuing to learn advanced mechanical skills. A successful technician complies with all company policies and performance metrics.

DUTIES
  1. Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
  2. Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck, including periodic reconciliation.
  3. Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
  4. Apply knowledge from training or experience to perform job duties; understand and evaluate technical information.
  5. Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
  6. Manage multiple tasks effectively, prioritizing work-related activities and time.
  7. Act with integrity, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to ethical standards.
  8. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on trailers and equipment in the field.
  9. Respond to dispatched service and maintenance requests.
  10. Use hand tools, precision instruments, welding equipment, and jacks.
  11. Document work according to standards, including uploading pictures and completing repair orders using company devices and applications.
  12. Complete DOT and other documentation timely and accurately.
  13. Work independently, managing your daily schedule efficiently.
  14. Maintain high productivity and adhere to repair time standards.
  15. Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
  16. Communicate with management and support teams for approvals and discussions.
  17. Perform work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  18. Participate in safety training and maintain safety protocols.
  19. Build and maintain good relationships with customers and vendors, communicating effectively.
  20. Maintain the service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform minor repairs on trailers and equipment.
  21. Diagnose and repair trailer systems, including aluminum work, brakes, air lines, pumps, engines, liftgates, and fabrication.
  22. Identify problems, evaluate information, and use sound judgment for solutions.
  23. Inspect and test defective equipment using appropriate instruments.
  24. Assist senior technicians with diagnostics.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Valid DOT Medical Card or ability to obtain one within 72 hours of hire.
  • Own a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
  • OEM training and certifications preferred.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Complete all company-required training.
WITHIN 18 MONTHS, OBTAIN:
  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS
  • ASE 608/609 certification
  • ASE T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical), T7 (HVAC)
