Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic I performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repairs of mechanical systems and equipment within healthcare facilities. Requires specialized knowledge in HVAC, motors, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems to repair heating, lighting, cooling, plumbing, ventilation systems, and equipment; install and maintain motors; and handle specialized equipment.

Location

This position is based at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital - Nashville, TN.

Responsibilities
Mechanical System Maintenance and Repair – 80%
  • Install, maintain, and repair equipment such as steam valves, traps, coils, radiators, water softeners, heaters, condensate and circulating pumps.
  • Service and repair electric motors, heaters, coolers, refrigerators, and related equipment using various hand and power tools.
  • Maintain and repair air compressors and air conditioning equipment.
  • Service appliances like fans, toasters, washing machines, and gasoline pumps; may also maintain and repair motor vehicles.
  • Maintain central steam and chemical water treatment systems, diagnosing malfunctions with gauges and test instruments.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and test parts such as pumps, valves, laboratory equipment, heaters, compressors, and fire equipment using various tools.
  • Operate electrical and pneumatic tools, perform pipe fitting, welding, hydraulic, pneumatic work, and operate heavy equipment.
  • Install new or replacement equipment across various maintenance disciplines.
  • Troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in boilers, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, HVAC, irrigation, and other systems.
Special Projects – 20%
  • Participate in meetings, training, and seminars to gather or share information relevant to job functions.
  • Assist in and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Graduate of trade school.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
