Job summary

Geauga County Public Library in Middlefield, OH, seeks a part-time Mobile Services Driver/Assistant to operate the Bookmobile and outreach vehicles, deliver customer service, and handle clerical tasks on the vehicle and in the library office.

You will drive, perform pre-trip checks, place holds, assist with outreach events, and support summer reading and patron requests. Requires high school diploma, valid Ohio driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to lift 30-40 lb.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Bookmobile/Outreach vehicles and maintain schedule.
  • Perform daily pre-trip vehicle maintenance checks and report issues.
  • Handle patron requests and place holds for materials.
  • Assist with outreach, volunteers, and events as needed.
  • Answer calls and support in-office duties during stops.
  • Support summer reading programs and promotions.
  • Attend required trainings and liaise with supervisor.

Position Title: Mobile Services Driver/Assistant

Hours /FLSA status: Part-time Non-Exempt – 20 Hours per Week

Works a varied schedule of afternoons, evenings and weekend rotation

Location: Mobile Services Department, Located in the Middlefield Library

Reports to: Mobile Services Supervisor

Staff Supervised: None

Position Summary

Drive the Bookmobile / Outreach vehicles maintaining a schedule. Provide excellent customer service to all patrons. Perform computer and clerical tasks both on the vehicle and in the office.

Essential Job Functions

This list is illustrative, but not exhaustive for this position.

  • Checks materials out to patrons, checks in returned items, and correctly shelves returned items on the vehicle. Check for reserves, replenish shelves, and displays as needed for each stop.
  • Drives, backs & parks the vehicles safely, and must always wear a seat belt. Performs daily pre-trip vehicle maintenance check with another staff member. Adds notes on vehicle’s pre-trip form. Promptly reports any issues with vehicles to the Supervisor. Drive vehicles to maintenance and repair appointments. In collaboration with Mobile Service Assistants, helps keep vehicles neat and clean.
  • Writes up patron requests for materials and includes all pertinent information on the form (i.e., day, stop, patron name and barcode). Readers Advisory on vehicle and in Office (via phone and written requests).
  • Placing holds for patrons, search for and route daily holds requests, and delivering holds when this service is needed.
  • Answers phones when in the Bookmobile / Outreach office and assists patrons on phone as needed. When needed, help to prepare vehicles for the next shift. Assists with Outreach, assists with volunteers, and attend parades and other events.
  • Assists all patrons with summer reading program.
  • Check employee e-mail, read Branching Out, Facebook, and other GCPL communications.
  • Assists in evaluation of stops and keeps supervisor informed of any problems with current stops including patron requests to change parking areas or discontinuing the stop. Recommends titles and/or subject areas to supervisor for possible purchase. Assists with weeding and cancelling books.
  • Attends: a) Customer Service Training; b) OSHA Training; c) Harassment Training; and d) other training opportunities (i.e., Safe Driving, NEO, etc.) as required or recommended by administration or supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

Minimum Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid Ohio driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Clean driving record (no moving violations in the last 5 years).
  • No at-fault traffic accidents in the last 5 years.
  • Has reliable transportation in order to meet work obligations such as meetings and delivering holds to patrons when necessary.
  • Successful completion of background check.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to regularly lift and carry 30-40 lb. bags of books up and down vehicle steps.
  • Ability to work in confined space.
  • Able to grasp, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls – including computers, phones, and office equipment.
  • Able to use a computer and print materials.
  • Ability to push or pull mobile book carts off and on vehicle.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, walk and/or kneel in order to shelve books on vehicle both the highest and lowest shelving.
