Job summary

FleetPride in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Mobile Technician II to perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics and repairs on heavy‑duty trucks and trailers in the shop and on service calls. Duties include basic welding, brake work and suspension troubleshooting while maintaining safety and 80% productivity.

Requirements: High school diploma or GED; Diesel Technology cert is a plus. 3+ years' experience with class 7–8 trucks; valid driver's license; Class A CDL preferred; must provide hand

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; Diesel Technology certificate/degree is a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience repairing class 7 & 8 trucks and trailers.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; Class A CDL preferred.
  • Must provide hand tools, air tools, and toolbox.
  • Welding experience.
  • Air Brake Certified.

Responsibilities

  • Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunction.
  • Provide preventative maintenance solutions when appropriate.
  • Maintain 80% productivity.
  • Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes; troubleshoot suspension systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, exhaust, steering, and HVAC systems.
  • Adjust, remove, and replace clutches and drivelines.
  • Perform basic aluminum and steel welding.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and service truck.

Partner with the best in the heavy-duty industry and apply today!GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION The Mobile Technician II is expected to have mastered all applications of Preventative Maintenance and to perform basic and advanced adjustments, repairs and component replacements with limited supervision. Additionally, the Technician II will perform basic diagnostic operations in order to successfully diagnose vehicle system failures and suggest accurate system repairs. This technician will also work in the shop between service calls. They may also be asked to participate in the after-hour on-call rotation for the location, if needed.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunction(s).Provide customers with preventative maintenance solution, whenever appropriate.Maintain 80% productivityPrevent comebacksPerform inspections and preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment.Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications and filter replacements.Repair, reline, replace, and adjust brakes (air, hydraulic, electric and brake accessories).Test drive vehicles and test components using proper equipment.Troubleshoot and repair suspension systems including leaf and coil spring systems, and Hendrickson walking beam type suspension systems.Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, exhaust systems, steering systems, air conditioning, PTO”S and custom exhaust systems.Adjust, remove and replace clutches and drivelines.Troubleshoot and repair fuel tanks, fifth wheels, trailer hitches, pintle hooks, auxiliary axles and frames.Perform tandem alignment, front axle king pin and bushing repairs.Perform basic aluminum and steel wire welding.Utilize machinery in order to repair or fabricate any driveshaft.File, grind, sand and smooth filled or repaired surfaces, using power tools and hand tools.Remove upholstery, accessories, electrical window and seat operating equipment and trim to gain access to vehicle bodies and fenders.Maintain a clean and organized workspace and service truck.Practice safe driving.EDUCATION & TRAININGHigh school diploma or GEDDiesel Technology certificate/degree is a plus, but not required.KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE3 + years of experience with repairing class 7 & 8 trucks and trailersWeldingAir Brake CertifiedSKILLS & ABILITIESValid driver’s license with good driving record required.Class A CDL is preferred, but not required.Must provide hand tools, air tools, and toolbox.Maintain perfect safety recordAbility to lift 50lbs.WORKING CONDITIONSWORK ENVIRONMENT - Exposure to Inside/Outside Conditions, Extreme Temperatures (average of 100 Degrees F), Humid Conditions, Chemical Hazards, Vibration, Equipment Noise, Work in enclosed and confined spaces.FleetPride is the leader in the industry comprised of retail, service, distribution and wholesale divisions.All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
