Job summary

TridentCare is seeking a part-time phlebotomist to service client facilities in the Paramount/Long Beach area. You will travel by personal vehicle to nursing homes and collect blood samples following established procedures.

Responsibilities include patient identification, proper labeling, PHI-compliant transport, maintaining logs, and coordinating with dispatch and labs. A valid state licensure (if required), a driving license and reliable vehicle are required, with strong English communication.

Qualifications

• Must hold current clinical licensure if state requires.
• Knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to laboratory purposes.
• Proficient in phlebotomy procedures, venipuncture, tourniquet use and site decontamination.
• Knowledge of specimen preservation, patient preparation and procedures.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
• Must have access to a vehicle meeting daily driving requirements.
• Must maintain a good driving record.
• Must understand resident rights and patient care rights.
• Ability to obtain blood specimens from patients under various conditions.
• Strong written/verbal English skills.

Responsibilities

• Drive to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) in personal vehicle as directed.
• Follow established phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples.
• Identify patients before drawing and document properly.
• Label specimens and accompany with required requisitions.
• Transport specimens in compliance with PHI policies.
• Plan draw schedules with patient priority in mind.
• Maintain equipment and report issues to supervisor.
• Be available on on‑duty status and notify dispatch for future assignments.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.

Description

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Employee will drive their personal vehicle (unless other accommodations are made) to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) as directed by company dispatcher or assigned Area Phlebotomy Supervisor/ Area Lead.
• Follows established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples from patients.
• Properly and accurately identify patients according to phlebotomy patient identification policy prior to drawing.
• Ensures that specimens are properly labeled, in the proper tube and accompanied by a completed requisition, including patient billing information prior to transport.
• Followsphlebotomy policy on transporting PHI.
• Plans, organizes draw schedule with attention to priority of patients.
• Completes written logs, time sheets and other required records in a neat and accurate manner.
• Works cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory and courier departments.
• Maintains all equipment in good working order and reports problem immediately to Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
• When on-duty, answers company issued mobile device promptly and is ready and available to work.
• Notifies dispatch of availability for future assignment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have current clinical Licensure, if required by State.
• Must possess knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to laboratory purposes.
• Proficient in phlebotomy procedures, techniques, including venipuncture, tourniquet application/removal and decontamination of the puncture site.
• Knowledge of required specimen preservation, adequate patient preparation and specimen procedures.
• Must have a current and valid Driver’s License and Auto Insurance.
• Must possess access to a vehicle in good working condition suitable to meet daily driving requirements.
• Must maintain a good driving record.
• Must be able to work under minimal supervision and accurately maintain time sheet records.
• Must understand and be knowledgeable of the resident rights, patient care and patient right to refuse.
• Ability to obtain blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions.
• Proficient in written/verbal skills in the English Language.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, public and all staff members.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to take directions and conduct self in a professional manner.
