Job summary

TridentCare in Camarillo, CA is seeking a part-time phlebotomist to travel to client facilities, primarily nursing homes, performing blood draws and ensuring proper labeling and transport of specimens.

You will follow phlebotomy procedures, maintain logs, coordinate with dispatch and lab staff, and uphold patient rights and HIPAA requirements.

Qualifications

• Must hold current clinical licensure as required by state.
• Proficient in phlebotomy techniques including venipuncture and tourniquet use.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology related to laboratory work.
• Proficient in written and verbal English.
• Ability to maintain accurate time sheets and records.

Responsibilities

• Drive to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) in personal vehicle or as arranged.
• Follow established phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples.
• Identify patients per policy before drawing blood.
• Ensure specimens are properly labeled and accompanied by requisitions.
• Transport specimens in accordance with PHI and privacy policies.
• Plan and schedule draws with attention to patient priorities.
• Maintain logs and records neatly and accurately.
• Coordinate with dispatch, payroll, lab, and courier teams.
• Keep equipment in good working order and report issues.
• Be available by company device when on duty.

Description

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Employee will drive their personal vehicle (unless other accommodations are made) to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) as directed by company dispatcher or assigned Area Phlebotomy Supervisor/ Area Lead.
• Follows established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples from patients.
• Properly and accurately identify patients according to phlebotomy patient identification policy prior to drawing.
• Ensures that specimens are properly labeled, in the proper tube and accompanied by a completed requisition, including patient billing information prior to transport.
• Follows phlebotomy policy on transporting PHI.
• Plans, organizes draw schedule with attention to priority of patients.
• Completes written logs, time sheets and other required records in a neat and accurate manner.
• Works cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory and courier departments.
• Maintains all equipment in good working order and reports problem immediately to Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
• When on-duty, answers company issued mobile device promptly and is ready and available to work.
• Notifies dispatch of availability for future assignment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have current clinical Licensure, if required by State.
• Must possess knowledge of medical terminology as it relates to laboratory purposes.
• Proficient in phlebotomy procedures, techniques, including venipuncture, tourniquet application/removal and decontamination of the puncture site.
• Knowledge of required specimen preservation, adequate patient preparation and specimen procedures.
• Must have a current and valid Drivers License and Auto Insurance.
• Must possess access to a vehicle in good working condition suitable to meet daily driving requirements.
• Must maintain a good driving record.
• Must be able to work under minimal supervision and accurately maintain time sheet records.
• Must understand and be knowledgeable of the resident rights, patient care and patient right to refuse.
• Ability to obtain blood specimens from patients under a variety of patient conditions.
• Proficient in written/verbal skills in the English Language.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, public and all staff members.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to take directions and conduct self in a professional manner.
