Description
- Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Employee will drive their personal vehicle (unless other accommodations are made) to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) as directed by company dispatcher or assigned Area Phlebotomy Supervisor/Area Lead.
- Follow established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples from patients.
- Properly and accurately identify patients according to phlebotomy patient identification policy prior to drawing blood.
- Ensure specimens are properly labeled, in the proper tube, and accompanied by a completed requisition, including patient billing information, prior to transport.
- Follow phlebotomy policy on transporting PHI.
- Plan and organize draw schedule with attention to patient priorities.
- Complete written logs, time sheets, and other required records neatly and accurately.
- Work cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory, and courier departments.
- Maintain all equipment in good working order and report problems immediately to Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
- When on duty, answer company-issued mobile devices promptly and be ready and available to work.
- Notify dispatch of availability for future assignments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Must have current clinical licensure, if required by state.
- Must possess knowledge of medical terminology related to laboratory purposes.
- Proficient in phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture, tourniquet application/removal, and decontamination of the puncture site.
- Knowledge of specimen preservation, patient preparation, and specimen procedures.
- Must have a current and valid Driver's License and Auto Insurance.
- Must have access to a vehicle in good working condition suitable for daily driving requirements.
- Maintain a good driving record.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and accurately maintain timesheet records.
- Understand resident rights, patient care, and the right to refuse treatment.
- Ability to obtain blood specimens from patients under various conditions.
- Proficient in written and verbal English skills.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, the public, and staff.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to follow directions and conduct oneself professionally.
