Description
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive a personal vehicle to client facilities, typically nursing homes, as directed by the dispatcher.
- Unload the phlebotomy tray and take it to the patient's bedside to collect samples ordered by a physician.
- Accurately identify patients before collecting specimens.
- Collect, label, process, and deliver specimens obtained from patients.
- Reload equipment and specimens into the vehicle for prompt delivery.
- Regularly communicate with the dispatcher to report status and location.
- Strictly adhere to Universal Precautions to control blood-borne pathogens and infectious disease exposures.
Requirements:
- Maintain required certifications, health requirements, and operational standards.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Excellent communication and interaction skills, especially with pediatric and geriatric populations.
- Treat customers and patients with respect, dignity, and discretion, acknowledging their rights.
- Current, valid State phlebotomy license.
- Valid State Driver's license, car insurance, good driving record, and a vehicle in good condition.
- Proficient in venipuncture and skin puncture techniques using vacutainer and syringe methods.
- Knowledge of laboratory operations.
- Maintain sterile, sanitary conditions to prevent contamination.
