Job description

Description

1. Tasks and Responsibilities:
2. Employee will drive their personal vehicle (unless other accommodations are made) to client facilities (mostly nursing homes) as directed by company dispatcher or assigned Area Phlebotomy Supervisor/Area Lead.
3. Follow established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples from patients.
4. Properly and accurately identify patients according to phlebotomy patient identification policy prior to drawing blood.
5. Ensure specimens are properly labeled, in the proper tube, and accompanied by a completed requisition, including patient billing information prior to transport.
6. Follow phlebotomy policy on transporting PHI.
7. Plan and organize draw schedule with attention to patient priority.
8. Complete written logs, time sheets, and other required records neatly and accurately.
9. Work cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory, and courier departments.
10. Maintain all equipment in good working order and report problems immediately to Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
11. When on-duty, answer company-issued mobile device promptly and be ready and available to work.
12. Notify dispatch of availability for future assignments.
13. Perform other duties as assigned by Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.

Qualifications

1. Must have current clinical licensure, if required by state.
2. Must possess knowledge of medical terminology related to laboratory purposes.
3. Proficient in phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture, tourniquet application/removal, and decontamination of the puncture site.
4. Knowledge of specimen preservation, patient preparation, and specimen procedures.
5. Must have a current and valid Driver's License and Auto Insurance.
6. Must have access to a vehicle in good working condition suitable for daily driving requirements.
7. Maintain a good driving record.
8. Ability to work under minimal supervision and accurately maintain timesheet records.
9. Understand resident rights, patient care, and the right to refuse treatment.
10. Ability to obtain blood specimens from patients under various conditions.
11. Proficient in written and verbal English communication skills.
12. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with clients, patients, the public, and staff.
13. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
14. Ability to follow directions and conduct oneself professionally.
