Job summary

The City of Walla Walla Fire Department CARES MIH program seeks a Peer Support Specialist who brings lived experience to support community members. You will provide emotional support, mentorship, and resource navigation to improve outcomes and reduce unnecessary emergency service use.

You will collaborate with EMS responders and care teams, helping develop individualized plans, connecting clients to services, and documenting progress in program records.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Lived experience with recovery, resilience, or navigating health and social challenges.
• Effective communication, listening, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with program participants using recovery principles.
• Provide peer mentoring, encouragement, and advocacy for individuals navigating behavioral health or life challenges.
• Identify participant needs and assist in developing individualized support plans.
• Connect individuals and families to community resources, healthcare providers, and social services.
• Document interactions and referrals in accordance with program guidelines.
