Job summary

Sims Metal is seeking a Mobile Maintenance Mechanic to diagnose and repair mobile equipment. The role requires extensive experience with internal combustion engines, transmissions, electrical and hydraulic systems. Independent work ethic and responsibility for equipment uptime are essential.

Respective duties include component rebuilding, failure analysis, and safe operation of heavy tools. A strong mechanical aptitude and physical capability are required to thrive in this hands-on position.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Proficient use of diagnostic tools for mobile equipment repair.
• Ability to communicate issues to supervision or technicians.
• Physically capable of heavy labor and outdoors work.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Rebuild major components (engine, transmission, pumps, motors) to specs.
• Identify failure causes and implement corrective measures.
• Operate and use torches, presses, winches, jacks, lifts safely.
• Perform routine inspections, oil sampling, and reporting.
• Conduct extended manual labor and housekeeping of work area.
• Assist with pre-start inspections and fluid level checks.
• Follow policies and procedures and take direction as required.
