Job summary

State of South Carolina Department of Transportation seeks a skilled maintenance mechanic to repair and service motors, transmissions, brakes, cooling and electrical systems on automotive and heavy equipment. You will also perform body work on SCDOT vehicles, straighten and replace panels as needed, and use diagnostic tools to troubleshoot ECM and transmission computers.

The role requires 1.5 years of related experience or an approved equivalence, a valid driver's license, and the goal to obtain

Qualifications

1.5 years of related work experience or approved equivalence.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must obtain Class A CDL within 6 months of placement.

Responsibilities

Perform skilled mechanical repairs and maintenance on motors, transmissions, brakes, cooling systems and electrical systems of automotive and heavy equipment.
Perform body repairs on SCDOT vehicles and equipment, including straightening and replacing fenders, doors and bumpers.
Use diagnostic tools to identify problems with ECM and transmission computers.
Rebuild differential assemblies as needed.
Welding and fabrication work on equipment and special projects.
Operate a service truck to perform repairs in the field.
Assist with emergency and inclement weather operations; overtime or 12-hour shifts may be required.
