Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an automotive technician to perform skilled repairs and maintenance on motors, transmissions, brakes, cooling systems and electrical components. The role includes body repair on SCDOT vehicles, diagnosing ECM/transmission issues, and rebuilding differentials.

Responsibilities include welding and fabrication work, operating a service truck for field repairs, and assisting with emergency and weather-related operations, which may require

Qualifications

• 1.5 years of work experience in independent automotive/mechanical duties.
• High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine coursework may substitute for 6 months of experience.
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license required; Class A CDL within 6 months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled repairs on motors, transmissions, brakes, cooling and electrical systems.
• Body repairs on SCDOT vehicles and equipment (fenders, doors, bumpers, etc).
• Use diagnostic tools to identify ECM and transmission issues.
• Rebuild differential assemblies as needed.
• Weld and fabricate for equipment and projects.
• Operate a service truck for field repairs.
• Assist with emergencies and inclement weather operations; may require extended shifts.
