Job summary

Cumbrian Water is seeking a proactive Mobile Field Engineer to travel across the Cumbria region, carrying out maintenance, inspection and repair of water infrastructure and equipment. You will ensure operational reliability, respond to service issues, and support safe, sustainable water services.

The role suits independently-minded engineers with strong mechanical and electrical knowledge. The position offers a competitive hourly rate, company vehicle and tools, and flexible working

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Full, clean UK driving licence (essential for mobile field work).
• Experience in utilities, facilities maintenance, or industrial engineering environments.
• Knowledge of water treatment processes and infrastructure (desirable).
• Confined space and water hygiene training (desirable but not essential).
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
• Good communication and reporting skills.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or on-call shifts.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of water treatment and distribution equipment.
• Diagnose and repair faults in mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
• Respond to emergency call-outs and service disruptions across the network.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company procedures.
• Record maintenance activities and update asset management systems.
• Liaise with control centre teams and other field engineers to coordinate work.
• Support installation and commissioning of new equipment or upgrades.
• Provide technical feedback to improve operational efficiency and reliability.

This role involves travelling across the Cumbria region to maintain, inspect, and repair water infrastructure and equipment. You’ll be responsible for ensuring operational reliability, responding to service issues, and supporting the delivery of safe and sustainable water services. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently in the field and have a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
