Job summary

Gerdau is seeking a Mobile Equipment Operator I to work in the Oklahoma yard, operating mobile cranes, magnets, and shears to process scrap and move materials within the yard. The role emphasizes safety, daily inspections, and routine maintenance to ensure equipment reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mobile cranes, magnet crane, mobile shear, and stationary shear to process scrap materials.
  • Load and unload scrap from trucks or railcars and move scrap within the yard.
  • Follow all Gerdau safety, environmental, and routine procedures specific to the yard.
  • Inspect equipment daily and document on checklists to ensure maintenance and proper operation.
  • Perform daily preventive maintenance including lubrication, greasing, fueling, and cab cleaning.
  • Inspect scrap grade and safety/environment concerns during shearing.
  • Use magnet crane to load/unload scrap from customer vehicles.
  • Assist with yard housekeeping and support coworkers in daily duties.

MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I - MR

The Mobile Equipment Operator yardwill operate mobile crane, magnet crane, mobile shear, and stationary shear to process scrap materials, load and unload scrap from trucks or railcars, and move scrap within the yard as required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow all established Gerdau Safety, Environmental, and Routine procedures specific to the yard.
  • Inspects mobile shear, magnet crane, and stationary shear daily and documents on checklists to ensure equipment is maintained and in proper working order.
  • Performs daily preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure proper working order such as lubrication, greasing, fueling, and keeping cab clean.
  • Inspects for proper scrap grade and safety and environmental concerns such as tanks, cylinders, etc. while shearing.
  • Shear unprepared material into prepared state identifying size, thickness, and physical dimensions.
  • Use magnet crane to load/unload scrap from customer vehicles into appropriate piles or railcars in order to process for shipping.
  • Use mobile equipment to lift and move scrap from one area of the yard to another.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with yard housekeeping efforts and perform other duties and work assignments as required and directed.
  • Assist co-workers in daily operational duties that are essential to the yard in terms of safety, efficiency, and profitability.
  • Problem solving input and contributions as required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • High School Education/GED preferred.
  • Desire to enhance skills and knowledge to develop as a Gerdau employee.
