Job summary

Pace Transportation Services is seeking a Mobile Diesel Mechanic/Trailer Technician to join our on-site mobile fleet supporting customers across our expanding Lansing-area service territory. This role requires traveling to breakdown sites or worksites, diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty trucks and trailers, and working from home on-call with no fixed office location.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of heavy-duty diagnostics experience, proficiency with Cummins tools, and the ability to work

  • 5+ years of experience on heavy-duty trucks and trailers.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair complex issues on heavy-duty trucks and trailers at customer sites.
  • Read job orders and plan work procedures.
  • Drive to worksites to perform repairs and complete complex tasks.
  • Maintain service truck and conduct safety checks and daily inspections.
  • Complete service worksheets and warranty claims.
  • Communicate with customers effectively and update on progress.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Mobile Diesel Mechanic / Trailer Technician (II or III)

Pace Transportation Services has recently expanded its service territory, and this is the start of our mobile on-site fleet service for heavy-duty vehicles in the Lansing area. Strong candidates will be passionate about providing exceptional mechanical service and professional customer service. The Mobile Diesel Mechanic/Trailer Tech position is a traveling mechanic position. You will work from home being on call, with no office to report to on a regular basis and will drive to our customers’ breakdown site or worksite locations, upon being dispatched to perform repairs on commercial heavy-duty trucks and trailers.

Responsibilities & Duties:
  • We are seeking an experienced Diesel Technician (Level II or Level III).
  • In this position you will work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, providing information or assistance, resolving their problems, and satisfying their expectations.
  • Drive to worksites to diagnose and complete complex repairs on heavy duty trucks, trailers, etc.
  • Read job order, observe and listen to vehicle in operation to determine malfunction and plan work procedures.
  • Apply the use of specialized tools and follow documented procedures and policies to diagnose and complete complex repairs, including identifying and preparing required parts and tools.
  • Complete required documents, such as service worksheets, time sheets, and warranty claims through handwritten forms and/or business system.
  • Maintain company issued service truck, conduct safety checks and daily pre/post trip inspections.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong professionalism when working cohesively with all customers.
  • Ability to work with no direct on-site supervision.
  • Ability to make effective judgments to prioritize workload and time allocation.
  • Ability to carry out full diagnostics using diagnostic tools on different product types; Experience using Cummins Insite Diagnostic Tool.
  • Experience performing all work within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
  • Ability to properly use parts books, services manuals, and QuickServe online.
  • Experience using Cummins EDS System.
Education and Certifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience working on heavy duty vehicle/OTR Trailers
  • State Certified Diesel Mechanic Certification is a plus
  • Post-Secondary Certificate or training as a Diesel Technician
  • Cummins Certified Master Diesel Technician / Mechanic preferred
  • Experience with Ottawa/Kalmar products
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift/carry 30lbs frequently.
  • Must be able to lift/carry 50lbs occasionally.
  • Must be able to lift/carry 100lbs during team lifts infrequently.
