FSCA is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel & Trailer Technician responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Mobile Diesel & Trailer Technician can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The technician continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. A successful technician complies with all company policies and achieves high performance metrics.
Duties
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT Inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer equipment such as aluminum and chem-lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment and trailer systems as listed above.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments like handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate solutions using sound judgment.
- Manage parts inventory and equipment on company-issued service trucks, perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Work effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work effectively.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards, upload pictures and details on Repair Orders using company devices and applications.
- Complete DOT and other required documentation timely.
- Work independently, manage daily schedule, and maintain productivity within standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management/support team via email or phone for approvals and updates.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Maintain company-issued service truck, perform safety checks, and daily inspections.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ experience in a related field, or a different combination of degree/certification and experience as specified.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for the job.
- Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Obtain 608/609 certifications within 18 months.
- Pass DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and physical.
- Possess a valid DOT medical card or be able to obtain one.
- Be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations.
- Have a valid driver’s license, and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File (DQF).
