Job summary

Pace Transportation Services is seeking a Mobile Diesel Mechanic/Trailer Technician (II or III) to perform on-site repairs for heavy-duty trucks and trailers across the Chicagoland area. This traveling role requires on-call availability and driving to customer sites to diagnose and repair complex issues.

You will read job orders, use Cummins diagnostic tools, follow SRTs, maintain the service truck, and document service activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years experience working on heavy-duty vehicles.
• State certification preferred.
• Post-secondary diesel tech training.
• Cummins Master Technician certification preferred.
• Experience with Ottawa/Kalmar products.

Responsibilities

• Drive to worksites to diagnose and complete repairs on heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
• Read job orders and observe vehicle operation to plan procedures.
• Use specialized tools and follow procedures to diagnose and repair.
• Complete service worksheets and warranty claims.
• Maintain serviced truck and perform safety checks.
• Report and document all work performed.

Pace Transportation Services has recently expanded its service territory, and this is the start of our mobile on-site fleet service for heavy-duty vehicles in the Chicagoland area. Strong candidates will be passionate about providing exceptional mechanical service and professional customer service.The Mobile Diesel Mechanic/TrailerTech position is a traveling mechanic position.You will work from homebeing on call,with no office toreport toon a regularbasis andwill drive to our customers’ breakdownsiteor worksite locations, upon being dispatched to perform repairs on commercial heavy-duty trucksandtrailers.

Responsibilities & Duties:

• We are seeking an experienced Diesel Technician (Level II or Level III).
• In this position you will work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, providing information orassistance, resolving their problems,andsatisfying their expectations.
• Drive toworksites to diagnose and complete complexrepairson heavy duty trucks, trailers, etc.
• Read job order, observe and listen to vehicle in operation to determine malfunction and plan work procedures.
• Apply the use of specialized tools and follow documented procedures and policies to diagnose and complete complex repairs, includingidentifyingand preparing required parts and tools.
• Complete required documents, such as service worksheets, time sheets, and warranty claims through handwritten forms and/or businesssystem.
• Maintain company issued servicetruck, conduct safety checks and daily pre/post trip inspections.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Strong professionalism when working cohesively with all customers.
• Ability to work with no direct on-site supervision.
• Ability to make effective judgments to prioritizeworkload and time allocation.
• Ability to carry out full diagnostics using diagnostic tools on different product types; Experience usingCummins Insite Diagnostic Tool.
• Experience performing all work within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
• Ability toproperly usepartsbooks, services manuals, andQuickServeonline.
• Experience usingCumminsEDS System.

Education and Certifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• 5+ years of experience working on heavy duty vehicle
• State Certified Diesel Mechanic Certification highly preferred
• Post-Secondary Certificate or training as a Diesel Technician
• Cummins Certified Master Diesel Technician / Mechanicpreferred
• Experience with Ottawa/Kalmar products

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift/carry30lbsfrequently.
• Must be able to lift/carry 50lbs occasionally.
• Must be able to lift/carry 100lbs during team lifts infrequently.
