Job summary

Pace Transportation Services is expanding its mobile on-site fleet for heavy-duty trucks and trailers in the Lansing area. The Mobile Diesel Mechanic/Trailer Tech travels to customer sites, diagnoses and completes repairs with minimal supervision, and maintains vehicles and paperwork.

We seek experienced Level II/III technicians with Cummins tool experience, strong diagnostics, and adherence to SRTs. Excellent benefits and growth opportunities are offered by HTI, the parent company.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 5+ years on heavy-duty trucks/OTR trailers preferred.
• Post-secondary diesel tech training and Cummins certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites to diagnose and repair heavy-duty trucks and trailers.
• Read service orders, plan procedures, and perform complex repairs within SRTs.
• Operate diagnostic tools, document service worksheets and warranty claims.
• Maintain service truck and conduct pre/post-trip inspections.

Mobile Diesel Mechanic / Trailer Technician (II or III)

Pace Transportation Services has recently expanded its service territory, and this is the start of our mobile on-site fleet service for heavy-duty vehicles in the Lansing area. Strong candidates will be passionate about providing exceptional mechanical service and professional customer service. The Mobile Diesel Mechanic/Trailer Tech position is a traveling mechanic position. You will work from home being on call, with no office to report to on a regular basis and will drive to our customers’ breakdown site or worksite locations, upon being dispatched to perform repairs on commercial heavy-duty trucks and trailers.

Responsibilities & Duties:

• We are seeking an experienced Diesel Technician (Level II or Level III).
• In this position you will work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, providing information or assistance, resolving their problems, and satisfying their expectations.
• Drive to worksites to diagnose and complete complex repairs on heavy duty trucks, trailers, etc.
• Read job order, observe and listen to vehicle in operation to determine malfunction and plan work procedures.
• Apply the use of specialized tools and follow documented procedures and policies to diagnose and complete complex repairs, including identifying and preparing required parts and tools.
• Complete required documents, such as service worksheets, time sheets, and warranty claims through handwritten forms and/or business system.
• Maintain company issued service truck, conduct safety checks and daily pre/post trip inspections.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Strong professionalism when working cohesively with all customers.
• Ability to work with no direct on-site supervision.
• Ability to make effective judgments to prioritize workload and time allocation.
• Ability to carry out full diagnostics using diagnostic tools on different product types; Experience using Cummins Insite Diagnostic Tool.
• Experience performing all work within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
• Ability to properly use parts books, services manuals, and QuickServe online.
• Experience using Cummins EDS System.

Education and Certifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• 5+ years of experience working on heavy duty vehicle/OTR Trailers
• State Certified Diesel Mechanic Certification is a plus
• Post-Secondary Certificate or training as a Diesel Technician
• Cummins Certified Master Diesel Technician / Mechanic preferred
• Experience with Ottawa/Kalmar products

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift/carry 30lbs frequently.
• Must be able to lift/carry 50lbs occasionally.
• Must be able to lift/carry 100lbs during team lifts infrequently.
