Job summary

The Halter Group is seeking a Field Service Technician – Mobile Diesel Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain field equipment across Atlanta, GA, southern GA, and Tennessee. You will service bucket trucks, aerial lifts, and support fleets in all weather while ensuring safety and reliability.

This mobile role requires strong troubleshooting, self-management, and clear communication with crews in English or Spanish.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2-3 years of automotive or diesel repair experience.
• Ability to diagnose, repair, and overhaul large equipment in the field.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• English proficiency, with strong reading and writing skills for technical manuals and reports.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds, bend, twist, and squat, and work outdoors in heat and cold.
• Availability for overtime, emergency call-outs, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, MVR check, and DOT compliance screening.

Responsibilities

• Travel to job sites and yards to inspect, service, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical, cooling, steering, and hydraulic systems.
• Work on aerial lifts, bucket trucks, chippers, tractors, and other tree service equipment.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on heavy-duty diesel engines, pickups, trailers, and standard equipment.
• Use diagnostic tools and critical thinking to troubleshoot problems in the field.
• Discuss with crews and foremen, read work orders, and decide what's needed before you start.
• Prioritize repairs by urgency so the most critical equipment returns to service first.
• Keep accurate service records in fleet maintenance software.
• Track receipts and invoices for on-time expense reporting.
• Coach field crews on preventive maintenance and daily equipment care.
• Respond to after-hours, weekend, and holiday call-outs.
• Support storm response and other duties as assigned.
