KREX/KFQX in Grand Junction seeks an MMJ/Reporter to produce impactful, daily hard-news stories for broadcast, streaming and social, with potential to anchor newscasts.

The ideal candidate will shoot, edit, write and report, pitch stories, and deliver content across platforms while maintaining journalistic integrity and production quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field or equivalent experience.
• Fluency in English and strong written and oral communication.
• Experience in news reporting and ability to meet deadlines.
• Superior on-air presence and live reporting capability.
• Valid driver's license with clean record; ability to work any shift.
• Strong research, interviewing and storytelling skills.

Job description

This is a new position. KREX/KFQX in beautiful Grand Junction is accepting applications for an MMJ/Reporter with the potential to anchor newscasts. The ideal candidate will turn impactful, daily hard-news stories for television, streaming and social.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Reports factual and fair daily news stories for broadcast.
• Arranges interviews with people who can provide information about stories or who can provide engaging interviews or content for streaming shows.
• Reviews copy and corrects errors in content, grammar and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines.
• Researches and analyzes background information related to news stories in order to be able to provide complete and accurate information.
• Pitches at least three relevant local news stories per shift to news managers and producers.
• Shoots, edits, writes and performs all stories.
• Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
• Writes stories for the web and other eMedia platforms.
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience preferred.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
• Experience in news reporting.
• Superior on-air presence, with the ability to perform live reporting from a news scene.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Flexibility to work any shift.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The Multimedia Journalist must be able to sit, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work in close proximity to others, work outdoors occasionally in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. In addition, the Multimedia Journalist must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are required. Work may be conducted in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.

Compensation Range

Annual Salary: $33,280.00 - commensurate with experience
