Job summary

FirstHealth of the Carolinas seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician/MT/MLS to perform and report results from chemical, serological, hematological, immuno-hematological, and microscopic tests for disease diagnosis and treatment. Training of MLT students is also included.

The role entails rotating through multiple departments (blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology, microbiology) and may require phlebotomy and schedule adjustments to cover lab needs. Weekend and holiday rotations apply.

Qualifications

• An associate or bachelor's degree in medical technology or medical laboratory science is required.
• Certification or eligibility for ASCP/AMT or equivalent is required.
• One year of laboratory experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform a broad range of lab tests across departments using established protocols.
• Rotate through blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology and microbiology as needed.
• Perform phlebotomy collections as needed.
• Adapt schedule to lab needs; cover additional shifts when required.
• Participate in weekend and holiday call rotation.

Job Description

Performs and reports results of a variety of chemical, serological, hematological, immuno-hematological, and microscopictestsand procedures to be used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease following established laboratory procedures and protocols. Performs the most complex testing.Assistsin the training of MLT students.

• Perform laboratory procedures using established and approved protocols that requiremoderatetobroad exercise of independent judgment and responsibility with minimal technical supervision at career entry.
• Perform a broad range of laboratory procedures rotating through multiple departments (blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology, microbiology)appropriate tothe services provided and to the ages of the patients served.
• Phlebotomycollectionsas needed.
• Mustbe able to adaptyourschedule totheneedsof the lab, covering other shifts/extended shifts when needed.
• Participate in weekend call rotation and holiday rotation.

Qualifications

An associate degree orbachelor's degreein medical technologyor medical laboratory science isrequired. One year of experience is preferred. Certification or eligibility for certification as Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technologist,orMedicalLaboratory ScientistbytheAmerican Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or equivalent isrequired.
