Job summary

Newberry County Memorial Hospital is seeking a Medical Technologist/MLT to join our clinical laboratory team. The position covers rotating shifts including Wednesdays 5:30 am - 6:00 pm and Thursdays & Fridays 8:00 am - 8:30 pm, performing a range of tests across blood bank, bacteriology, hematology, serology, urinalysis, chemistry and morphology.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical, microscopic and bacteriologic tests.
• Maintain and record lab results and quality control.
• Instrument maintenance, calibration, and QC.
• Troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Receiving, processing, and ordering of specimens as needed.
• Assistance with phlebotomy procedures.
• Assistance with biopsy procedures.
• Assistance with inventory control and stocking.
• Participation in proficiency testing.
• Participation in continuing education.

Job Summary:

The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Laboratory Technician is needed Wednesdays 5:30 am - 6:00 pm and Thursdays & Fridays from 8:00 am to 830 pm. performs various clinical, microscopic and bacteriologic tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Receives and obtains specimens for laboratory analysis. Prepares and applies techniques used in fields of blood bank, bacteriology, parasitology, hematology, serology, urinalysis, chemistry and morphological examinations. Must maintain and record lab results and quality control in all areas.

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Performance of instrument maintenance, calibration, and QC
• Troubleshooting and problem resolution
• Performance of quality assurance tasks
• Daily temperature monitoring
• Receiving, processing, and ordering of specimens as needed
• Assistance with phlebotomy procedures
• Assistance with biopsy procedures
• Assistance with inventory control and stocking
• Participation in proficiency testing
• Participation in continuing education
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education:

• Successful completion of an accredited MLT program
• Associate’s degree
• National certification (ASCP or equivalent), or eligible*. (*Certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire)

Experience:

• Minimum of 1 year experience as a MLT preferred.
