Full-Time | Night Shift | Laboratory

Share Medical Center – Alva, Oklahoma

Share Medical Center is seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our Laboratory team on the night shift.

This position is an important part of patient care, providing accurate and timely laboratory results that support physicians and clinical staff in the diagnosis and treatment of our patients. We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented laboratory professional who takes pride in accuracy, teamwork, patient-centered care, and excellent service.

Position Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex laboratory testing in accordance with established procedures and physician orders.
• Analyze blood, urine, and other body fluids to assist with diagnosis and treatment.
• Collect, identify, label, and process patient specimens using appropriate procedures.
• Perform blood bank testing, including preparation and verification of blood products and compatibility testing for transfusions.
• Perform quality control and calibration procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
• Review and validate laboratory results for completeness and accuracy prior to reporting.
• Report laboratory results accurately and timely to support clinical decision-making.
• Prioritize STAT and urgent testing, particularly in support of hospital and emergency department patient care.
• Communicate critical values and abnormal results promptly to the appropriate clinical staff.
• Troubleshoot laboratory equipment and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs.
• Maintain laboratory instruments, supplies, and inventory.
• Document testing, maintenance, and quality control activities in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment while following infection control and safety protocols.
• Participate in training and mentoring students and new staff as needed.
• Utilize SQSS and follow hospital requirements related to accreditation and regulatory compliance.
• Follow HIPAA, hospital policies and procedures, and all applicable laboratory safety standards.
• Participate in on-call responsibilities as assigned.
• Respond appropriately in emergency and disaster situations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or completion of at least 60 semester hours, including biology and chemistry, from an accredited institution.
• MLT certification preferred.
• Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)

• Bachelor's-level education and laboratory qualifications appropriate for an MLS position.
• MLS certification preferred.
• Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred.

Additional Requirements

• Current BLS certification, or ability to obtain BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
• Reliable transportation and ability to participate in the laboratory's on-call rotation.

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent standing and walking throughout clinical areas, along with the ability to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, and perform fine motor tasks associated with laboratory equipment and documentation. The position may require assisting with patient movement and lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds occasionally and 25 pounds frequently. The employee must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations.

Work Environment

The position is performed in a hospital laboratory environment with potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, infectious diseases, chemicals, electrical hazards, and other hospital-related hazards. Appropriate personal protective equipment and hospital safety protocols must be followed.
