Job summary

HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) in Microbiology to perform a range of tests on patient samples using microscopes, instrumentation, and computer systems.

The role supports physicians with diagnostic data and is offered at 40 hours per week, with a 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM schedule. Required are a NAACLS-accredited MLS/MT program or ASCP certification and a Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, chemistry, and math.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, chemistry and mathematics required.
• NAACLS-accredited MLS/MT program or ASCP certification preferred.
• 2 years of MLS lab experience required; 5 years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of tests on patient samples (blood, body fluids, cells, tissue) to detect health conditions.
• Operate microscopes, biomedical instrumentation, and computers to study samples.
• Provide data to physicians for diagnosis and treatment.
