Job summary

Essentia Health in Moorhead is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the team. This full-time role (40 hours per week) includes day/evening rotation at the Moorhead Clinic within the 3312010 GENERAL LAB - MHD department.

Responsibilities include pre- and post-analytical support, specimen collection, and waived testing, with training opportunities for new staff. Strong attention to safety, accuracy, and compliance is required.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a Medical Laboratory Assistant program or complete an internal MLA training within 1 year of hire.
• ASCP certification preferred but not required (see preferred qualifications).
• Comfort with basic computer tasks and medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-analytical and post-analytical tasks to support Essentia Health Laboratories.
• Promote patient safety during specimen collection and processing.
• Perform waived lab testing per accrediting and licensure requirements.
• Collect specimens via venipuncture or capillary skin puncture and other specimens (urine, swabs, etc.).
• Process and handle specimens according to testing requirements to support clinical lab testing.
• Conduct laboratory testing when applicable per accreditation/licensure standards.
• Assist in training new employees, students, and other staff as appropriate.
• Follow Essentia Health policies to ensure safety and quality of specimens and equipment.
