Job summary

Essentia Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to support pre-analytical and post-analytical functions in the laboratory. The role involves phlebotomy, specimen processing, and following accreditation standards.

Shift rotation includes Day, Evening, and Night, with flexibility for morning runs and evening coverage. The position offers a part-time, 0.2 FTE schedule with benefits and opportunities for training, while ensuring patient safety and compliance with state licensure

Qualifications

• Graduate from Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or completes an internal MLA training program within 1 year of hire.
• Preferred: Phlebotomy or MLA ASCP certification.
• Recent specimen preparation and processing experience beneficial.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Collect specimens via venipuncture or capillary skin puncture and other specimen types.
• Perform specimen processing and handling per testing requirements.
• Conduct laboratory testing when applicable and per licensure standards.
• Participate in training of new employees and students.
• Follow Essentia Health safety rules to ensure quality and safety of specimens.
