Job summary

NC State University’s North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies in Asheville invites two temporary student interns to work remotely on a project applying machine learning to environmental observations and satellite data. You will learn state-of-the-art ML models and collaborate with NCICS scientists and NOAA partners.

Ideal candidates are pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in CS, statistics, environmental science, math, or related fields and have strong communication and teamwork

Qualifications

• Direct experience with applied machine learning and/or large language models (LLM).
• Experience performing statistical analyses.
• Experience working with environmental data.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines.
• Ability to work independently as well as make positive team contributions.

Responsibilities

• Assist NCICS scientists and NOAA collaborators on ML-based analyses of environmental observations and satellite data.
• Learn and apply state-of-the-art ML models and tools for environmental data analytics.
• Collaborate with interns to contribute to project milestones and deliverables.
• Communicate findings clearly to team members and stakeholders.
