Job description

This position performs skilled consecutive, first-person interpretation. Work is performed and reviewed under direct supervision, following well-defined policies and procedures. There is limited opportunity for exercising independent judgment and decision-making. The incumbent refers most problems to a supervisor and generally handles all non-routine issues. This description applies to the entire Interpreter classification regardless of language(s) spoken, including but not limited to Arabic, Bengali, Brazilian Portuguese, Burmese, Cambodian, Cantonese, Farsi, French, Haitian Creole, Hindi, Hmong, Japanese, Korean, Karen, Mandarin, Nepali, Polish, Punjabi, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES):

1. Provides meaning-for-meaning interpreting.
2. Follows CyraCom’s interpreter protocols as per training, policies, and procedures.
3. Maintains confidentiality and adheres to interpreter ethics and policies.
4. Attends all required training sessions.
5. Continuously improves vocabulary and specialized knowledge for various client needs such as medical, legal, social services, etc.
6. Uses standard office equipment and MS Office applications like Outlook, Word, and browsers.
7. Demonstrates reliable attendance, follows directions, communicates effectively, works independently and as part of a team, and interacts professionally with others.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

1. Fluent in English and the target language.
2. Excellent oral and written communication skills in both languages.
3. Basic understanding of linguistics and cultural differences.
4. Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and react calmly in emergencies.
5. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
6. Ability to work independently and exercise initiative within company policies.
7. Maintains strict confidentiality.
8. Effective at informing supervisors of issues and establishing good work relationships.
9. Proficient with Microsoft Office and internet browsers.
10. Competent in operating common office equipment.
