Job summary

Animal Medical Services in Mount Airy, NC seeks a mixed animal associate veterinarian to join our long‑standing, family‑focused practice. We operate a diverse caseload across small animals, equine, and food animals, with a second location in Galax, VA, and a collaborative team of five doctors.

You’ll provide medical and surgical care, support welfare through client education, and contribute to our emergency coverage when needed.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA-accredited institution.
• State licensure in good standing.
• Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Professional and courteous presentation with staff and clients.

Responsibilities

• Examine and treat companion animals to diagnose disease or injuries.
• Operate diagnostic equipment and interpret results.
• Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.
• Perform surgery and prescribe medications as needed.
• Provide guidance on pet end-of-life care.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Ensure compliance with veterinary ethics and policies.
