The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Materials Technology (Anne Arundel County) is currently recruiting for a Mix Lab Technician (Transportation Engineering Technician III) position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.
This position reports directly to the Team Leader for the Asphalt Mix Laboratory and will function as the laboratory technician for the hot mix asphalt laboratory. This position is responsible for performing various quality assurance (QA) tests of asphalt mixtures and assist the group leaders and consulting staff in the lab. This is a technical position in the field of hot mix asphalt materials used in highway construction. The position may receive guidance from the Asphalt Team Leader, Laboratory Engineer or Senior Laboratory Technician. The technician is responsible for specific tasks and projects in assisting in the operations of the section. The Technician will perform the daily and complex testing for the hot mix asphalt laboratory team and help develop strategies for improvements of the team and its testing mission. The Technician will apply techniques, engineering principles, and applicable policies and standards to a variety of efforts as they relate to materials designated for highway construction and to operational improvement. This position is responsible for assisting in maintaining all hot mix asphalt testing equipment to the AASHTO Accreditation criteria.

The State Highway Administration (SHA) has been named a Training magazine Training Awards winner for the seventh consecutive year.
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Three (3) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.
Two (2) years’ experience in material testing relating to hot Mix Asphalt mixtures and binders.
1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.
2. Applicants who possess an associate's degree in engineering, construction management or surveying or surveying technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the required experience.
Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
