Job summary

The State Highway Administration's Mix Lab in Anne Arundel County is seeking a Mix Lab Technician (Transportation Engineering Technician III) to perform QA tests on asphalt mixtures in the hot mix asphalt lab. The position reports to the Lab team leader and supports lab operations and quality assurance efforts for highway construction materials.

Preferred candidates will have high school diploma, 3 years in engineering-related work, 2 years in material testing of hot mix asphalt, plus knowledge

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of engineering-related experience.
• Two years of material testing experience with hot mix asphalt.
• Preferred: strong communication, organization, scheduling, and computer skills.
• Preferred: knowledge of AASHTO testing procedures and materials specs.

Responsibilities

• Perform QA testing of asphalt mixes in the hot mix asphalt lab.
• Assist lab leaders and staff with testing and lab operations.
• Maintain testing equipment per AASHTO accreditation criteria.
• Develop and implement improvement strategies for the testing team.
