Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Research Specialist I to join a basic science lab focused on mitochondria biology and mitochondrial disease, especially CMT2A. The role emphasizes cell culture, transgenic animal maintenance, histology, and molecular techniques such as PCR and western blotting.

Under supervision of the PI and Lab manager, you will perform experiments, maintain colonies, collect and analyze data, and contribute to team progress.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and two years of work experience in a clinical or research setting; a bachelor's degree may substitute for the two years of experience.
• Experience with cell culture and sterile techniques preferred; willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to evolving project needs.
• Ability to work with animals (mouse and rat) and maintain accurate records.

Responsibilities

• Perform mammalian cell culture and ex vivo tissue culture experiments with various assays.
• Genotype transgenic mouse and rat lines and assist in behavioral and electrophysiological studies.
• Maintain accurate records, analyze data, and present progress in team meetings.
• Proficiency with programs including Excel and Word.
