  • Professional Engineer in Mississippi or Arkansas (or ability to obtain).
  • 10+ years in Water Resources/Hydrology/Hydraulics with leadership responsibilities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytics, and teamwork.
  • Advanced knowledge of hydrologic/hydraulic modeling and GIS-based tools.
  • Experience with MicroStation/OpenRoads, AutoCAD/Civil 3D, ArcGIS is preferred.

Neel-Schaffer is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a Mississippi H&H Lead to join our growing engineering firm and be responsible for leading Hydrology and Hydraulics operations and teams across both states. We prefer this leadership position be based in our Jackson, Mississippi, office, but it could be based in any of our Mississippi or Arkansas offices.

This individual will play a key role in the continued growth and success of Neel-Schaffer’s Water Resources Team, providing technical leadership and mentorship to H&H staff throughout Mississippi and Arkansas.

In this role, the Mississippi H&H Lead will oversee a variety of H&H studies and engineering projects, ensure the delivery of high-quality technical solutions, and support business development efforts within the MS/AR regions. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with other state and regional H&H leaders, fostering consistency, innovation, and best practices across the company. They will also work alongside technical experts throughout Neel-Schaffer’s footprint to leverage resources, strengthen project delivery, and provide exceptional service to clients and communities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced H&H professional seeking to advance their leadership career while helping shape the future of water resources engineering at one of the nation’s leading engineering consulting firms. Typical projects include various types of roadway and transportation drainage, flood control, bridge hydraulic studies/designs, bridge scour analyses, storm water management studies, design/contract plans for flood control and storm water infrastructure projects. A limited amount of travel may be required for some projects.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer in the state of Mississippi or Arkansas with the ability to become licensed in other states in the Southeast US.
  • 10+ years of experience with technical work, project management, and staff management in Water Resources/Hydrology/ Hydraulics.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills necessary with the ability to plan and conceptualize.
  • Advanced knowledge of the latest hydrologic and hydraulic computer modeling programs, including GIS-based applications, 1D, 2D, dynamic/unsteady‑flow – e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS 1D/2D, PCSWMM, SMS, StormCAD, etc.
  • Experience with Microstation (and/or GEOPAK/OpenRoads), AutoCAD (and/or Civil 3D), and ArcGIS is preferred.
  • Ability to perform a limited amount of field work, including drainage investigations, drainage asset inventorying, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
